Spelling

Spelling is a very important part of our first grade writing program. Our society expects well-educated people to know how to spell correctly. Every Monday, your child will bring home a spelling list that will help prepare them for our spelling test on Friday. There are usually 10 words on the test, along with 2 dictation sentences. The sentences are for bonus points only, because the child will not have these sentences to study beforehand. The sentences will consist of words that the child is familiar with and will help them learn sentence structure, capitalization, and punctuation.
