Number Club

The Number Club is a very popular activity in first grade. Each student has his/her own "Number Club Book". During free time, students may practice counting and number writing skills by working in their books. Students start at 1 and continue counting on from there. Every time a student finishes a set of 100 numbers, the Number Club Book is turned in and checked by me. If it is completed correctly (without any reversals), a sticker is placed on the page and the student gets to place his/her name on the Number Club Board at 100, 500, and 1,000 milestones. My only requirement is that each student reaches the 100 Club by the end of first grade, as this is a district requirement. The students love this free-time activity once the pattern of number writing has been discovered. Most students reach the 500 Club, and there are always a handful that are way past 1,000!
